Achilles tendonitis is a common condition that results in pain and inflammation of the Achilles tendon. The Achilles tendon is the largest and strongest tendon in the body and connects the calf muscle to the heel bone.

The most common symptom of Achilles tendonitis is pain along the back of the ankle, either when standing on tiptoe or pushing off with the foot. Other symptoms may include swelling, stiffness, and warmth around the Achilles tendon.

Achilles tendonitis can be caused by a number of things, such as overuse, improper footwear, or structural problems with your feet or legs. Treatment for Achilles tendonitis includes resting your feet, ice packs, compression bandages, and elevation, as well as physical therapy exercises and stretches.
